Vivianne Miedema made the switch from red to sky blue earlier today, signing for Manchester City on a free transfer.

The Dutch forward has signed for the Manchester club until the summer of 2027, after not being offered a contract extension at her former club, Arsenal.

Being in popular demand this transfer window, clubs across Europe and the NWSL have expressed interest in Miedema.

She told Sky Sports: “The reason I chose City is because they have the same ambitions as me. They want to win the league and titles.

“Looking to the future, I’ve always said I want to play with the best players in the world and I think City have got that.

“I do think this is the place to be right now. In the end, it was an easy choice for me.”

As the WSL’s all-time top goal scorer, it was a devastating blow when she tore her ACL in December 2022 against Olympique Lyonnais.

Miedema made her return against Bristol City, and later scored her first goal back against her childhood club, Feyenoord, in a closed doors friendly.

Her first WSL goal since tearing her ACL came shortly after, when the Gunners took on Liverpool at Prenton Park, winning 0-2.

In the past, the Dutch international has played for Bayern Munich before joining Arsenal in 2017.

She has won the WSL with the Gunners in 2019 and has told several media outlets that she has her sights set on playing Champions League football in the upcoming season.

The signing of Vivianne Miedema marks an incredibly strong start to the transfer window for Manchester City, who look to bolster their squad ahead of another season in the WSL.
