Manchester City were crowned Women’s Super League champions for the second time in the club’s history following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.
With a game to spare Andrée Jeglertz’s side secured the league title for the first time in 10 years and will celebrate their triumphant campaign on the final day against West Ham.
Victory over the Hammers would also see City equal their club-record points tally for a single WSL season, taking them to 55 points.
Jeglertz told Mancity.com: “There’s never been doubt about the talent in the group but there is something else about talking about being winners and champions.
“We started that early and we believed in that. That’s led us through this year.
“It hasn’t been easy, it’s been hard work every day but we had a strong belief that we could be sitting here in May and be champions.
“That is the first thing, and we definitely deserve it.”
The 54-year-old was appointed manager of Manchester City in July 2025, and becomes only the second manager in WSL history to guide his team to victory in his debut season.
City have been sat top of the table since November last year and have enjoyed six months in the lead. Their title-winning campaign has been shaped by relentless consistency and a cut-throat attack in crucial moments.
Bunny Shaw has delivered a phenomenal season, scoring 19 goals in 21 games, and is on track to win the WSL golden boot for a third successive year.
But across the board, Jeglertz’s side have been praised for their calm leadership and composure, with the Swede credited for creating a balanced atmosphere within the squad.
Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood said: “There’s been moments in the season and a feeling within our four walls where we felt confident. We spoke about being winners, and have been confident to speak like that.
“We’ve had a bit of a shift in mindset to feel comfortable to speak in that language. That’s been a massive difference in our culture.
“We’ve worked really hard on those small details of acting like champions, playing like champions, speaking like champions.”
