Renée Slegers has been appointed as the permanent head coach of Arsenal FC.

After the resignation of former head coach Jonas Eidevall in October 2024, Slegers stepped up from her assistant position to take charge of the North London side.

As interim manager, she oversaw an unbeaten run of ten wins and one draw in all competitions ahead of the winter break.

This included five consecutive Champions League wins in five group stage matches, sending Arsenal to the top of their group and into the quarter-finals.

The team netted 31 goals and conceded only five with her at the helm.

Slegers was awarded the Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award in December for her leadership.

Prior to joining the London club in the summer of 2023, the Dutch manager was head coach of Rosengard for two years where she won back-to-back Swedish league titles.

As a player, she was in the Arsenal youth academy between 2006 and 2007.

In her professional senior career, she played for Willem II in the Netherlands, as well as Djurgårdens and Linköping in Sweden.

She has 55 caps for the Dutch national team ahead of her 2016 international retirement.

Slegers’s contract lasts through to the end of the 2025/26 season.

Regarding her appointment, Slegers said: “I’m so excited to be continuing our journey together. It’s a wonderful honour to represent this club as head coach and I have so much belief in what we can all achieve together.

“Over the past few months, I’ve felt such a powerful sense of collective ownership and responsibility across our players and staff – that has been our strength and I know we will make sure we drive and nurture this feeling as we all move forward.

“It has meant the world to me to feel the closeness and passion of our supporters during this process, and I want to thank you all for that. We want to deliver something beautiful that’s inspiring and leads to winning trophies. We all have a big part to play in achieving that.”
