Rehanne Skinner has said that Jess Ziu’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a “big blow for her and us” but is hopeful about the recent surgery.

The Republic of Ireland international tore her ACL for the second time in August and has since undergone surgery.

Ziu’s operation took place on Friday 6 September, just over two weeks after the pre-season friendly in which it occurred.

West Ham manager, Rehanne Skinner said: “It is a big blow, she was doing really well.

“In term of where we’d progress things with her and how she was starting to perform at the end of the season, she’s been top class.”

Her last serious knee injury was sustained last November, and she had not long returned to Skinner’s side before disaster struck again.

In interview, Skinner remained positive about the midfielder’s condition: “She had surgery on Friday and that’s very quick because her knee was actually in a good place to be able to do it quite quickly.

“She’s essentially on the mend straight away and based on where we are, we take that as a positive at this stage.”
