On 16 September, Barcelona announced that current Ballon d’Or holder Aitana Bonmatí extended her contract with her life-long club until 2028. 

During her monumental year this past season, Bonmatí won the Ballon d’Or, the World Cup, the Golden Ball, the Champions League, the domestic treble in Spain, and accumulated a long list of other accolades. 

After scoring in the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final in Bilbao this past May, she is now the club’s all-time top goalscorer and is presently tied with Alexia Putellas for the Champions League record of 22 goals.

During her many years at her childhood club, she has played 275 games and scored 96 competitive goals. 

In her time on the senior team, she has won 23 different trophies with the Blaugrana.

In an announcement video from the club, Bonmatí said, “The story continues.”
