Karen Holmgaard

Everton FC has announced the contract extension of Denmark international Karen Holmgaard.

Following in the footsteps of her twin sister, Sara Holmgaard, who penned a new deal yesterday, the 25-year-old sisters have confirmed their commitment to the club.

Both Holmgaard sisters joined Everton under manager Brian Sorensen in August 2022 and have since established themselves as key members of the team.

Karen, who can operate both as a centre-half and a midfielder, brings dynamic defensive capabilities to her game. She expressed her enthusiasm for continuing with the club in an interview with EvertonTV:

“It was an easy decision to extend my time here. I love being an Everton player. The club, teammates, staff, city, fans – it’s all fantastic.”

Reflecting on her past season, Karen added:

“I can’t wait to be back playing. Last season was really tough with injury, and I wasn’t able to play as much. I have a lot of things to improve on. For me, it’s important to be at a good club where I feel at home, and that’s the feeling I get here. I need to show who I am, show the real Karen, and I cannot wait to do it.”

The 25-year-old is currently recovering from hip surgery after a spell of injury problems at the end of last season. Her return is eagerly anticipated by both the club and fans as she looks to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
