After a successful season for Aston Villa, it has been confirmed that they will be moving to the main stadium, Villa Park, which holds 42,640 seats.
Aston Villa finished 7th this season with 24 points. Their original stadium, the Poundland Bescot Stadium, had a capacity of 11,300, so the move to Villa Park will provide a considerable increase in seating capacity.
This is a significant step for the continual growth of the women’s game in England. Villa fans will be eager to make their new home a fortress, making it difficult for opponents to play at Villa Park.
With Aston Villa moving to their main stadium, there are now three teams in the Women’s Super League (WSL) playing in their primary stadiums. The other two teams are Arsenal, who play at the Emirates Stadium for most of the season, and Leicester City, who play at the King Power Stadium.
This is a positive sign for the WSL as it indicates that clubs are backing their women’s teams, and with record attendance numbers this year, there is always room to grow.
WSL fans will be excited to see the continual growth and support of the women’s game in England, with the hope of breaking more attendance records.
