Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of Lucy Bronze.
The 32-year-old joins Chelsea following a two-year stint with Champions League winners, Barcelona.
Bronze has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, keeping her under the management of Sonia Bompastor until 2026.
The defender has previously stunned the Women’s Super League with her talent whilst playing for both Liverpool and Manchester City.
When questioned about her return to England, Bronze said: “To know I’m a Chelsea player still feels a little bit surreal.
“It’s obviously a club I know so much about and have done for such a long time.
“I’m really excited to be back in England.
“My family are so excited as well to get to more of my games.
“I’m excited to be in London, to see what the capital holds and to be at a club that is renowned for winning so many trophies.”
Bronze is also a key feature in Sarina Wiegman’s England squad, with her latest feature playing against Sweden in the match that secured the Lionesses automatic qualification to the EURO 2025 campaign.
With 125 international caps, Bronze is a highly valuable member of the Lionesses, and was part of the winning squad of EURO 2022, as well as making the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in 2023.
The England international also has a wide variety of individual success, finishing as runner-up for the Ballon d’Or in 2019.
Bronze has also claimed several other accolades, some of which include 2020 FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year, BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year and features within the FIFPRO Women’s World XI on several occasions.
General manager Paul Green commented: ‘Lucy will bring leadership to the group.
“She is a serial winner and a versatile defender.
“She has lots of experience and a winning mentality which we feel will fit well into the squad.”
