Coming into the 2023/24 Women’s Super League season, Liverpool knew improvement was needed across the club.

There was a large turnover of players who had helped earn them promotion into the top flight a season ago, and manager Matt Beard was making exciting new signings to develop the club.

One such signing was 26-year-old defender Grace Fisk.

A well-known player to Matt Beard, having signed for him once before at West Ham United, she has been ever present in the Liverpool defence, making goal-saving blocks on multiple occasions, as well as earning her first goal for the club in a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Having started all games across all competitions, Fisk played a total of 1,939 minutes for the Reds over the course of the season, fully establishing herself as part of their usual back three.

During these games she displayed impressive stats, with 957 successful passes and winning possession for the team 133 times.

Off the pitch, Fisk has become a fan favourite amongst Liverpool fans, and has generated much conversation on her lack of involvement on the international scene.

The English defender has only been present in a senior England camp once – for the 2020 SheBelieves Cup under Phil Neville, whilst signed at West Ham United, and is yet to make a senior appearance.

She was, however, an importance piece in the England youth camps, captaining the squad that won bronze at the 2018 U20s World Cup.

With another major tournament on the horizon for the Lionesses, there has been a conversation around the Liverpool number four as to whether or not Sarina Wiegman should give her a chance in a squad.

England had been previously struggling with injury, especially with both first-choice centre backs, Millie Bright and Leah Williamson, absent with knee injuries over their nations league campaign.

Unfortunately for Fisk, the return of both defenders may have set her even further back in the England ranks.

Though an England call-up may not be coming soon, the future for Fisk looks bright playing for Liverpool, a WSL club that is hoping to continue shaking up the league with impressive results.
