After a dramatic season, Arsenal has announced changes to the squad numbers for Laia Codina and Katie McCabe.
Katie McCabe, who joined Arsenal in 2015, has made 140 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals. She has been a key player for Arsenal this season, wearing the number 15 for most of her professional career at the club.
However, following the departure of fan favorite Vivianne Miedema, who left a significant legacy with the number 11 shirt, there was much debate among fans about who should inherit it.
Some suggested retiring the number 11, but the Irish player, who has dubbed herself the “president of the Vivianne Miedema fan club,” has fittingly chosen to take up the number 11.
It seems only appropriate that Katie McCabe, with her dedication and performance, should don the number 11 jersey.
Laia Codina, who joined Arsenal last year, initially claimed the number 27. The Spanish defender quickly endeared herself to fans with her performances and love for North London.
Her new number, 5, previously belonged to Scottish defender Jen Beattie, who left to join the NWSL. This change might indicate that Arsenal is aiming to assign more traditional numbers to their players, as several first-team players currently sport non-traditional numbers, such as Kyra Cooney-Cross with the number 32.
For fans who have purchased the 2024/25 kit with the old numbers, Arsenal is offering a free number change.
You can swap numbers by returning your shirt along with your order number online, returning it to The Armoury (Arsenal’s in-person shop) if purchased in person, or mailing it to:
