A new sponsorship deal between Barclays, the Women’s Super League, and the Women’s Championship was announced this morning, with the bank pledging to double their investment.
The £45m multi-year deal will see Barclays continue as the title sponsor of the top two tiers of English women’s football until 2028. This is the first major contract secured by Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPPL) since their takeover of the leagues this summer.
Tom Corbett, Group Head of Sponsorship, Barclays said: “I speak for all my colleagues when I say how proud we are to be continuing our sponsorship of football. This latest agreement solidifies our long-term commitment to supporting the game at every level and creating opportunities for everyone to benefit from it.”
The new deal has also been praised by Ian Wright OBE, Football Legend and Ambassador. The former Arsenal striker said:“We constantly talk about the sustainability of women’s football and the need for increased investment and long-term partners to truly accelerate the growth.
“Barclays are once again leading the way with their commitment. This investment is exactly what’s needed to not only continue the growth but to ensure the game is sustainable for future generations.”
In addition to the women’s leagues, Barclays has also agreed to a new four-year deal with the Premier League.
