Germany booked their place in the quarter final after a 4-1 victory over Zambia, only losing 1 game throughout the group stages to fellow quarter finalists USA.
They will now face the reigning gold medalists, Canada, who navigated a tumultuous journey to the quarterfinals after being deducted six points for breaking regulations following their first group game.
Despite starting with a negative three points, Canada advanced thanks to a 1-0 victory over Colombia and the highest goal difference among the third-place teams, which saw Australia eliminated.
With both of these sides slowly rebuilding after being knocked out of the Women’s World Cup, they are looking to prove that they deserve a place in the semi finals. The contrast between the two teams is interesting as Germany booked their place through consistency and results while Canada had to overcome barriers and scandals.
Key Players to watch:
For Canada Vanessa Gilles is the player to watch as she sent Canada to the quarter finals after a spectacular performance and scoring the winning goal.
For Germany Lea Schuller is the player to watch as she has been a driving force for the Germany side and constantly having a good performance and showing why she should be starting.
Predictions:
It will be a physically challenging game, with both mental and tactical challenges due to the way these teams play. The team that stays the most contestant throughout the game will book their place in the semi finals.
