After seven years at the club, Maren Mjelde has announced that she will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season.
She joined the club in 2017 from Avaldsnes IL in Norway, where she was part of the Champion’s League qualifying team.
Despite competing for four trophies this year, the Blues have only got the WSL title left to play for which would be Mjelde’s 14th and final piece of silverware with the club.
The Norwegian international has only played six matches this season, but in previous years had made a name for herself by scoring important goals, like the one that sent the side to the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2019.
Mjelde has scored 23 goals and has made 140 appearances in her time at the club, being renowned for her composure during penalties.
General manager, Paul Green, told Chelsea: “Maren has been one of our leaders both on and off the pitch. Her experience and quality within the group have been really important.
“She has played a big part in our success, winning 13 trophies in seven years and has contributed some memorable moments, including important goals in European competition.
“She will always be held in the highest regard at Chelsea, and we wish her the best for the future.”
