The NWSL playoff push is on as hosts Gotham FC line-up against visitors Racing Louisville on Queen Kriegs Day.

The New Jersey-New York side are set to honour Gotham FC royalty as they welcome back two-time Women’s World Cup winner and club ambassador Ali Krieger.

Juan Carlos Amorós’ side had their unbeaten streak snapped in a 2-0 loss, away from home against Kansas City Current at CPKC Stadium.

Despite their unfortunate loss and a few errors, Gotham FC have one of the best defensive records in the leagues, with 11 clean sheets secured so far this season.

A lot is due to the presence of English international Jess Carter and Emily Sonnett, as they look to maintain their defensive stability in their push for playoffs.

Visitors Racing Louisville head to the Sports Illustrated Stadium just 4 points clear in the playoff standings, with a crucial point secured against Chicago Stars in front of their home crowd at Lynn Family Stadium.

Beverly Yanez’s team throughout the season have developed their identity up front.

American international Emma Sears is amongst the top goal scorers with 10 goals in the NWSL and Janine Sonis with five assists so far, including the vital assist for Bethany Balcer in their previous game.

Going into the game, the Louisville-based side are inching closer to their first ever NWSL playoffs appearance.

Both sides met in May this year, with Racing Louisville securing a narrow 1-0 win, a spectacular showstopper finish by midfielder Taylor Flint saw them grab their first home win of the season.

Ahead of the penultimate game of the regular season, Gotham FC manager Juan Carlos Amorós is looking forward to the last home game before the playoffs.

He said: “The whole team is very excited.”

“Off the pitch they are a fantastic group and I think on the pitch they are growing every game.”

Amorós added: “I think the players are really up for it and I hope it’s a great advertisement for women’s football.”

Coach Bev Yanez and her side are hoping their preparations pay off on gameday in their playoff push.

She said: “Everybody’s just doing their best to prepare as best as they can and take the best mentality going into the match.”

“I definitely think it’ll be a high intensity game and obviously really excited for it.”
