Aston Villa have announced the departure of women’s team player Adriana Leon.

Leon, 32, is leaving the WSL to join NWSL team San Diego Wave in the United States for an undisclosed fee.

The Canadian Olympic goal medallist made a total of 39 appearances for Villa since joining from Manchester United in 2023, scoring nine goals.

She has made the team sheet a total of 11 times for the Midlands club this season but did not feature in their last two games against Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup or Leicester City in the league.

“I’m incredibly excited to join San Diego Wave FC and can’t wait to get to work with my new teammates,” said Leon in an interview with her new club.

“This is a Club with big ambitions, and I’m ready to give everything I have to help the team succeed.

“The passion of the fans and the energy around this city make it an amazing place to play, and I’m looking forward to stepping on the field and representing San Diego with pride.”

Leon’s contract is a two-year deal lasting to the end of the 2026 season, with a mutual option for the 2027 campaign.
