Goals from Emily Fox, Caitlin Foord, Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo capped off a perfect night for Arsenal interim Head Coach, Renee Slegers.
Fox starting the scoring inside seventy seconds, tapping home a loose ball, before Foord doubled the tally inside twenty minutes.
Olaug Tvedten hauled Valerenga back into the game before half time, but late goals from Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo gave Slegers the perfect start to life in the Arsenal hotseat.
Interim Arsenal boss, Renee Slegers made just one change to the side beaten by Chelsea, with Laia Codina coming in for Lotte Wubben Moy.
Valerenga boss, Nils Lexerod mad two changes from their last Champions Leeague clash, a 1-0 defeat to Juventus with Michaela Kovacs and Linn Vickius coming into the side.

Valerenga got us started at The Arsenal Stadium, but it was the Gunners who wasted no time in North London getting started, with Katie McCabe and Kim Little combining, and the formers cross eventually falling to the foot of Emily Fox, somehow in the centre forward’s position, to tap home and give the hosts a very early lead.
Arsenal thought they had a second just four minutes later, with Alessia Russo breaking after being played through by Kim Little, but the forward was offside when she lashed into the net, halting any further celebration.
Russo is then presented with a chance immediately afterwards, but her low effort is superbly tipped wide by Tove Enblom in the Valerenga goal.
The former Man United forward was at the heart of things again, being brought down by Elise Thorsnes, with the Valerenga defender being shown a yellow card for her challenge.
Valerenga had their first real effort of the game on the twenty minute mark, with Daphne van Domselaar having to get down low to keep out Janni Thomsen’s low drive.
Arsenal were ramping up the pressure, and forced Tove Enblom into a triple save in quick sucession, twice denying Aleessia Russo after keeping out Katie McCabe’s fizzing drive.
There was nothing she could do on the half hour however, as Mariona Caldentey drove forward, before setting up Beth Mead, who’s effort was blocked, falling into the path of Caitlin Foord, who tapped home the rebound to score her second goal in two games, following her strike against Chelsea at the weekend.

Valerenga weren’t two down for long though, after some pressure on Laia Codina saw Karina Saevik win the ball back, feed Olaug Tvedten, with the former drilling a superb low effort past Van Domselaar to put the game back in the melting pot.
American defender, Michaela Kovacs, making her first start tonight in the Champions League for the Noreweigan side almost let Mariona Caldentey in behind from an overhit pass, but did really well to get back goalside and concede only a corner from her lapse in concentration.
Tove Enblom was forced into a brilliant save yet again, this time keeping out a Beth Mead effort at her near post, just as the board for three added minutes went up at the end of the first half.
Katie McCabe tried to force her way through down the left side of the penalty area, but was off balance and her effort sailed wide of the post, in the final action of a entertaining half in North London.

Half Time – Arsenal 2-1 Valerenga.
We got back underway in North London with neither manager making a change to the teams that started the night.
Arsenal started the second half much like the first, on the front foot and Laia Codina pounced on a looy se ball to send an effort goalward from the edge of the area, but it was seen too by Enblom in the Valerenga goal.
Arsenal knew their one goal lead was a dengerous one and almost were pegged back entirely, with Karina Saevik. embarking on a solo run, pickiung the ball up just inside the Arsenal half, charging towards Codina, with the Valerenga Number 21 brushing off the centre half as if she’s not even there, then chopping inside Leah Williamson before her left footed effort just went over the bar.
Slegers elected to use her bech on the hour, bringing on Steph Catley and Frida Maanum for Beth Mead and Katie McCabe, with a freshen up opted with the hosts being quiet on chances in the second half.
Saying that, a key chance for Arsenal arrived just as we approached the 70th minute, with Mariona Caldentey picking up a loose ball and eating up the ground with options left and right, before electing to shoot but her effort was straight at Enblom.

Ticking into the final fifteen minutes, another Arsenal change was readied, with Stina Blackstenius replacing the scorer of their second goal, Caitlin Foord.
Arsenal finally tightened their grip on the game with six minutes left, with Alessia Russo breaking, playing the ball to Stina Blackstenius, who in turn squared the ball for Mariona Caldentey who slammed the ball intio the roof of the net.
Lina Hurtig and Katie Reid were then introduced, with the former back playing for Arsenal for the first time in over a year, replacing Lia Walti and Laia Codina respectivley.
There was even time for a fourth and Alessia Russo to get the goal her performance richly deserved, slotting the ball through the legs of Tove Enblom to cap off a brilliant nights work under the lights in N5.
Full Time – Arsenal 4-1 Valerenga.
